Indian e-commerce startups planning to launch a lobby group

India’s some of the largest Internet companiesFlipkart and Ola are grouping together with peers including MakeMyTrip to launch an industry body that will represent the interests of local ventures and aim to create a moat against deep pocketed global rivals, in one of the world’s most prized markets for digital commerce.

The lobby group-    led by Sachin Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart, as founding president and chairman will appoint a former IAS officer as CEO, said four people directly aware of the development.

The former bureaucrat is expected to join in 2-3 weeks. The other founding members include online classified player Quikr and Messaging application Hike.

The group wants to become the Nasscom for the startup space -said two of them.

The formation of the lobby group signals an aggressive stance by the county’s top internet entrepreneurs, who have been insistent in their demand for policy support.

Flipkart’s Bansal and Ola’s Bhavish Aggrawal were among the first to raise the voice against what they termed as aggressive spending by overseas companies that distorts the chances of the level playing field for Indian players.
